After the basic medical schooling, she married a Surgeon and the couple moved to Lucknow, pursuing higher medical education. There sprung the second rendezvous – an opportunity. She met again the Maestero, Pandit Birju Maharaj. Twenty years after the small meeting in Gwalior, the legend personified remembered the eyes of the little girl and the words that he spoke to her at Gwalior- the initiation. The Guru of the Gurus handed over Dr Jyoti to Pandit Arjun Mishra, one of his most accomplished students- then a Senior Faculty at the Bhatkhande Music College, Lucknow, and then started the work of polishing the artist within. Pursuing this opportunity, Jyoti snatched out time from her busy schedule of Post Graduate studies in Gynecology. The Guru and the Shishya spent hours together for months, and the art within magnificently unfurled itself.
