Personal Life Nana Patekar

In 1978, Nana Patekar married Neelkanti Patekar. The couple later separated but never divorced. Their first son, Durvasa, died at around the age of two. Their second son, Malhar Patekar, survives him. His mother, Nirmala Patekar, died in January 2019 at the age of 99.

Despite his stardom, Nana lived simply. For years his home was a modest one-bedroom flat in Andheri, Mumbai, and he later lived in Goa.

Philanthropy and the NAAM Foundation

Nana Patekar was known as much for his generosity as for his acting:

  • He supported Bihar flood relief.
  • He gave away his full Paathshaala fee to five charities.
  • In 2015, he personally handed financial aid to families of farmers who had died by suicide in Vidarbha, Latur and Osmanabad.

In September 2015, he co-founded the NAAM Foundation with Marathi actor Makarand Anaspure. The foundation helps drought-affected farmers across Maharashtra and became one of the best-known celebrity-led social initiatives in the state.
