Career Qazi Touqeer

Fame Gurukul (2005)

In 2005 Qazi Touqeer took part in Fame Gurukul, Sony TV's Indian version of Fame Academy. Through public SMS voting, reported at about 2.5 crore votes in the finale, he was declared joint winner with Ruprekha Banerjee. The same season featured Arijit Singh, who went on to become one of India's best-known playback singers. In a 2026 interview, Touqeer himself admitted he had not sung well on the show.

Music

After the show, he and Banerjee released the album Yeh Pal (also known as Qazi-Ruprekha Jodi No-1) on Sony BMG. Its songs include "Yeh Pal", "Karu Kya", "Hero", "Meri Mehbooba", "Madham Si Chandani" and "Kehkashan". The title song remains his best-known track.

Acting and Television

  • Take Off (shelved): In 2008 he injured his neck while rehearsing at Ganesh Acharya's studio for his planned acting debut, Take Off, which was shelved in 2009.
  • Sarkaar Ki Duniya (2009): Took part in this island-based reality show and exited in May 2009.
  • Phantom (2015): Made a guest appearance in the song "Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba)", alongside Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif; the song was sung by Asrar.

Bigg Boss 20 (2026)

In September 2026, Qazi Touqeer entered Bigg Boss 20, hosted by Salman Khan, marking his return to mainstream television nearly two decades after Fame Gurukul. On the show he spoke about turning down a TV offer from producer Ektaa Kapoor early in his career, and a chest-pain incident in the house was later clarified by Salman Khan as a prank. In mid-October 2026 he was among the nominated contestants.
