Rohit Sharma Early Life

Rohit Gurunath Sharma was born on 30 April 1987 in Bansod, Nagpur, Maharashtra.

• Father: Gurunath Sharma, who worked as a caretaker at a transport firm's storehouse
• Mother: Purnima Sharma, from Visakhapatnam
• Younger brother: Vishal

Because of the family's limited means, Rohit was raised mainly by his grandparents and uncles in Borivali, Mumbai. He visited his parents, who lived in a one-room house in Dombivli, on weekends.

In 1999 he joined a cricket camp run by coach Dinesh Lad, who got him a scholarship at Swami Vivekanand International School. Lad also turned him from an off-spinner batting at number eight into an opening batter, a change that shaped his career.
